When we kicked off this project, it was about stretching the idea of what comfort could look like in a world that’s both hyper-connected and deeply overstimulated. Could a chair be more than just relief? Could it feel like it knew you?

Challenge

OSIM wanted to create a chair that worked across a wide range of users - tech-forward millennials optimising their recovery, and older users who just wanted relief without a learning curve.

The goal was to figure out what "smart" actually needed to mean for each of them, and where the line was between a helpful product and an overwhelming one.

Getting into people's stress

We talked to people across generations about what stress actually feels like and what it genuinely takes to relax - two things that turn out to be surprisingly different.

We explored how different age groups approach smart technology and where they get stuck. What makes a product feel personal rather than just functional. How much control people actually want over their rest. And whether AI could play a supporting role without taking over.

The finding that changed everything: comfort isn't one-size-fits-all. It's emotional, evolving, and shaped almost entirely by how much a person trusts the technology behind it.
